Intro to Tendo Marketplace Claims and ERA Process
This document provides information on how providers that partner with Tendo Marketplace can enroll in our claims process.
The Tendo Marketplace claims process allows providers to electronically submit 837 claims to Tendo and electronically receive 835 ERAs from Tendo with each payment. Tendo will process the claims and can automatically redeem the vouchers on behalf of the provider, so that the provider no longer has to manually redeem vouchers.
Tendo Marketplace also can send providers 835 ERAs to accompany each payment without receiving claims. This can be a simpler starting point for some providers to optimize reconciliation of Tendo Marketplace payments. If you’d like to pursue this route, you will just need to enroll to receive 835 ERAs but not send them.
Note: if Tendo Marketplace does not receive claims from providers, we cannot include contractual adjustments or the charge amount in the 835 ERA.
Claims Overview
Tendo Marketplace can receive claims electronically, process those claims by matching them to purchased vouchers, and return an 835 ERA response electronically for those claims.
After enrolling in the Tendo Marketplace claims process, any provider can start submitting claims. Tendo Markeplace will match all received claims to vouchers that have been purchased on mdsave.com. If the claims match a voucher, Tendo Marketplace will automatically redeem that voucher in order to trigger payment to the provider.
When the matching voucher is paid to the provider, Tendo Marketplace will send an 835 ERA to the provider with the payment information for the voucher and information from the original claim such as the initial charge amount. If Tendo Marketplace cannot find any vouchers matching the patient, we will deny those claims as non-covered services.
In order to ensure that all payments to a provider have a claim (and thus the 835 can include the initial charge and contractual adjustments for each voucher), we encourage providers who are sending us claims to no longer manually redeem vouchers.

Setting Up an MDsave Payer Code
In order for claims to be sent to Tendo, patients must have the MDsave payer code in their account in their EHR/billing system. When registering the patient in their system, the hospital/provider staff should make sure to register them using that MDsave payer code.
Note: Payer codes are unique to an individual system and Tendo does not know individual provider’s payer codes.
Contact Tendo Support at 844-256-7696 if you have questions about your MDsave payer code.
Confirming Claims Delivery
To confirm that your connection with Tendo to send claims is working properly, please do the following:
- Register a fake patient in your EHR, calling it a name such as Sample or Confirm that makes it clear to Tendo that it isn't real.
- Use Group ID 45678
- Use Member ID today's date with no dashes ((12012025 for 12-01-2025).
- Register the patient with the Tendo/MDsave payer code that you set up in your EHR.
- Add some charges for the patient.
-
Create a claim for the patient. Depending on your EHR, this should be mostly automated, but there may be steps you need to do such as verifying the charges.
After sending the claim to Tendo, please let us know you sent it and send us the following information about it: - Patient demographics (name/DOB)
- Billing NPI Used
- Tax ID
Tendo will confirm receipt and verify that the NPI matches your organization's.
If it isn't possible for you to use a new sample claim, request a claim for a past Tendo Markeplace patient.
Testing ERA Delivery
After 835 is enabled and the first payment has been sent to you, we will reach out to you to confirm that Tendo sent the 835.
