Patient Payment Methods

Collecting patient payments through Tendo Marketplace is simple and gives your patients choices. You can collect payment through one or multiple cards, through CareCredit promotional financing, or you can accept all or part of a patient's payment via cash or check.

Card Payments

When helping a patient purchase a voucher, select Credit Card if the payment will all be on one card, or Multiple Payment Methods to split the payment across more than one card. Payments can be split between up to 10 cards, including major credit cards, international credit cards, Health Savings Account (HSA) debit cards, Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) debit cards, and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) debit cards.

Many FSA cards can be used just like credit cards to purchase procedures on mdsave.com, but if patients are unsure, they should contact their card administrator directly to determine whether voucher purchases can be drawn from their FSA account. If patients are unsure whether they have an FSA account, they should check with their employer or health insurance.

All Tendo Marketplace transactions are processed through Authorize.net, a secure online payment gateway.

If users have a saved card, they need a CVV (security code on the card).

Cash Payment

You also can add cash payments, but only use cash or check if you’ve confirmed that the patient is unable to pay using a debit or credit card.

  • Cash or check can be used only if the procedures have a party that can accept cash, and the setting is enabled in Tendo Marketplace. For cash + cards, patients can use both if the procedure has a party that accepts cash.
  • Collect the payment in full via cash or check.
  • Post the full amount in the patient account and enter it into your electronic cashier drawer.
  • Explain to the patient that if the voucher needs to be canceled, it will take up to 30 days to mail them a check.

CareCredit

Tendo Marketplace partners with CareCredit, a health, wellness and personal care credit card, to help patients pay for vouchers over time with promotional financing options and flexible monthly payments available. Your account manager must enable CareCredit for it to be available in the Provider portal interface.

  • If a patient wants to use CareCredit, give them a copy of the CareCredit and Tendo Marketplace brochure that explains the terms and details of both promotional financing options. This brochure is available at no cost to on our storefront. See Ordering Marketing Materials Storefront FAQs for more information.
  • Create a cart in the usual way, and click SHARE WITH PATIENT to send the cart to the patient and ask them to complete the checkout process on their mobile device. The patient clicks the link on the message you have sent to go to their shopping cart.
  • The patient clicks CHECKOUT and selects PAY WITH THE CARECREDIT CREDIT CARD. Promotional financing options for qualifying orders will be listed for selection. If the patient doesn’t have a CareCredit card, they can apply for one by working through the screens that pop up. If approved, the patient gets their account number immediately to complete their purchase.
  • When the patient has accepted the terms and conditions and the purchase is complete, the patient will receive a link to their voucher via email. Proceed with the Tendo Marketplace registration process as usual.

A CareCredit card is subject to credit approval, and there is a required minimum monthly payment. Patients cannot apply for another family member (spouse, child, parent). See carecredit.com for details.

Alternatively, the patient can call the Tendo Marketplace Support Team at 855-400-1228, and the team will assist them with their CareCredit application. If it is approved, Support can help the patient complete their purchase. Then proceed with the Tendo Marketplace registration as normal.

Important: You cannot go through the CareCredit application process on behalf of your patient. The patient must complete the application by themselves on their device or call the Tendo Marketplace Support Team for assistance.

Split payment is not allowed with CareCredit.

  • Accepted for out-of-pocket costs - CareCredit can be used to pay for copays, deductibles, and other costs not covered by insurance.
  • Revolving Credit Limit - Patients need not reapply to use their CareCredit credit card for future procedures.
  • Promotional financing options are available on purchases of $200 or more.

Medicaid, Medicare, and TRICARE

Tendo Marketplace is available to anyone paying out-of-pocket who wants to save money on healthcare. Tendo Marketplace currently does not accept Medicaid patients.

Medicare and TRICARE patients can purchase procedures if the procedure is not covered by those programs, and the provider gives the patient a completed Medicare Advance Beneficiary Notice of Non-coverage (ABN) form or a TRICARE Non-covered Service form.

Applying a Voucher Purchase to an Insurance Deductible

If a patient has a high deductible health plan and is not on Medicare or Medicaid, their voucher purchase may count toward their deductible. Once your patient has completed their purchase, they can submit their itemized statement to their insurance company, which will determine if the purchase can be applied to any remaining deductible.

Instruct patients that their insurance company must decide whether the procedure is eligible. They may contact their insurance company before Checkout to see whether their purchase will apply.

They need to request a claim form from their provider at the time of service or after their procedure. They must have the:

  • Diagnosis Code (ICD-10 Code)
  • Procedure Code (CPT® Code)

The patient then must contact Tendo Support at 880-522-7570 or using the Tendo Marketplace contact form. Tendo Marketplace will send an itemized statement to the patient, usually within one business day. The itemized statement is different from their voucher. It will include a Tendo Marketplace fee below the subtotal that covers Tendo’s costs of contracting with providers, technology, processing payments, and marketing. Some insurance companies may not apply this amount to the deductible, even if they approve including the procedures.

The patient must send these documents to their insurance company using the process outlined in their health plan.

Patients can use Tendo Marketplace’s free deductible checker tool to find out the details of their plan.

Enabling Payment Methods

For purchases on behalf of a company, your account manager must enable invoice purchase and paying with a corporate card to the company, and Patient Responsibility Split Payment.

Cash or check, multiple payment methods, and CareCredit are enabled unless your organization wants them to be removed when a company is selected.
